Independent educational status
HullStudy is an independent educational project. It is not a shipyard design system, a class-approved technical product, or an official service of KRISO, SIMMAN, IMO, IACS, CadNav, Siemens, HD Hyundai, or any vessel owner, operator, builder, equipment maker, or classification society.
Organization and product names are used only to identify sources, standards, or comparative workflows. Their trademarks remain the property of their respective owners. No endorsement is claimed or implied.

Exterior geometry method
Source and reconstruction
The public SIMMAN 2020 KVLCC2 IGES benchmark is an open hydrodynamic surface set rather than a production watertight solid. HullStudy intersects that surface at 281 transverse stations and rebuilds a connected, winding-consistent display mesh for stable browser rendering.
Orientation and waterline
The imported source is vertically normalized so deck and bottom orientation match the upright topside context. The displayed design waterline follows the published KVLCC2 design draft of 20.8 m against a published moulded depth of 30 m.
Measured reconstruction deviation
The current source-to-rebuild comparison records a mean surface deviation of 0.46 m and a 95th-percentile deviation of 0.91 m. Those values are suitable for broad visual study but are not production tolerances. Display closing surfaces and semantic overlays are outside source-CAD scope.
Internal arrangement method
No public KVLCC2 production general arrangement, approved midship section, construction drawing, piping diagram, electrical single-line diagram, cable schedule, or as-built model is represented as source data. The internal layer is an educational double-hull VLCC arrangement informed by IMO tanker requirements, IACS structural relationships, published machinery envelopes, and standard marine-system logic.
- Spaces
- Fifteen main cargo-oil spaces, two aft slop spaces, segregated wing ballast spaces, and double-bottom ballast spaces are shown as a training arrangement.
- Structure
- Boundary plating, bulkheads, floors, girders, web frames, transverses, longitudinals, brackets, and openings illustrate member relationships rather than approved scantlings.
- Systems
- Cargo oil, ballast, stripping, inert-gas, cargo-vent, fire-main, shafting, and electrical paths communicate functional sequence and segregation.
- Tags and dimensions
- Training tags, nominal sizes, envelopes, and example loads support instruction. They are not copied from a yard production database or owner documentation.
Terminology and selection validation
Each glossary card is registered to the same Three.js object group that is displayed as the selected part or space. The translucent highlight clones that registered geometry; it is not an unrelated pick sphere or a hand-entered screen coordinate.
Startup validation checks that every registered term has a non-empty modeled object and that its bounding region satisfies the expected spatial contract. Piping system records also check modeled radius against the registered nominal-diameter scale. If a required group is missing or displaced, initialization stops instead of silently pointing a card at a different object.

The CadNav source hull, source propeller, textures, and branding are excluded from the runtime topside reference. The retained geometry is used as part of the complete educational artwork and is not offered for extraction, resale, or standalone redistribution.

Privacy and promotion policy
HullStudy uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to understand aggregate visits and technical performance. The site does not operate advertising profiles, sell visitor data, require an account, or publish paid rankings. Promotion is limited to accurate search-engine submission, useful educational content, and voluntary sharing by learners and educators.
HullStudy does not buy backlinks, post automated forum comments, scrape contact lists, send unsolicited bulk messages, imitate organizations, or conceal sponsorship. Any future partnership or sponsored material should be disclosed beside the relevant content.
